Plot Summary

Kobol

Helo and Starbuck make their return to Roslin's portion of the fleet at Kobol, bearing the Arrow of Apollo. Boomer is nearly lynched by Roslin and Apollo, but saves herself by claiming to know the location of the Tomb of Athena. Roslin spares her life, and they go on a ground mission looking for the Tomb. Elosha is killed when she steps on the Cylon version of a Bouncing Betty land mine, and they are ambushed by Cylons. Boomer kills the final Cylon attacker herself, and the team continues on its search.

Galactica

Commander Adama chooses a new CAG, a young, relatively inexperienced lieutenant named Birch, and promotes him to captain. Birch promptly screws up his first two training missions. First Birch accidentally gives Viper pilots Louanne "Kat" Katraine and Brendan "Hotdog" Constanza simultaneous "all clear" orders to go ahead with their practice runs. The two make the runs and Kat is nearly killed when Hotdog unknowingly fires on the asteroid she is strafing. Birch then screws up a refueling mission, causing the fueling tanker and the ship being refueled to almost crash into each other.

Adama continues to act strangely, finally confiding in Petty Officer Dualla. Dee calls him on his problems, and Adama eventually decides that he needs to bring the fleet back together and heads for CIC, ordering Gaeta to send him the tactical information on Kobol.

Notes

  • The survivor count actually rises by one this episode, presumably reflecting Helo's return to the fleet.
  • This episode had the highest Nielsen rating of the evening for Sci Fi Friday.

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Zarek hopes Roslin will make him her right-hand man. However, he and his friend Meier fear she'll pick Lee instead and plot to take him out and use the dire warning about Kobol as a cover.
  • Kara joins up with Roslin at Kobol and bring her the Arrow of Apollo.
  • Led by Sharon, Roslin, Elosha, Kara, Helo, Lee, Zarek, Meier, and others traverse the surface of Kobol to find the Tomb of Athena. However, Cylon forces remain. Several are killed, including Elosha who accidentally sets off a landmine.

Characters

  • Kara and Helo learn Boomer shot Adama. Everyone is immediately hostile to Sharon and Roslin orders her to be sent out the airlock. However, she is convinced that Sharon can help them find the Tomb of Athena and stays her execution.
  • Upon being reunited, Lee kisses Kara, which takes them both aback. She later teases him when he says he loves her, albeit as a friend.
  • Sharon helps to establish her loyalty by taking a firearm and destroying the Centurions firing at them.
  • Adama is initially persistent in moving on without the rest of the fleet. However, he allows Dee to speak her mind, she explains that he feels that he let down that he failed to deliver his promise to them. He later approaches Gaeta to bring him recon material on Kobol, explaining that he plans to unify the fleet and its people.

Quotes

  • Tigh: Morale is down throughout the fleet. The press is going wild. Families are being split apart.
Adama: Don't talk to me about family.
  • Number Six: They do have it easy, don't they?
Baltar: They? Why are you talking to me like I'm not one of them?
Number Six: In some ways you never were. You have a path. You will be spared their fate. For once, Gaius, you can stop manipulating the world and let destiny take its course. If there's one thing we know about human beings with certainty, they are masters of self-destruction.
  • Adama: Mister Gaeta. I want to see all recon material on Kobol immediately in my quarters.
Gaeta: Aye, sir.
Tigh: Kobol?
Adama: Yes. I'm putting the fleet back together. I'm putting our family back together.
