Twelve Colonies
- The Colonial Anthem, heard during the Viper flyover at the Galactica's decommissioning ceremony in the Miniseries and again during the second season episode "Final Cut", is the original Battlestar Galactica theme.
Aerilon
- Boomer's home colony of Troy was supposedly located near Aerilon before its destruction.
- Aerilon's Quorum representative voted for Zarek in the Vice Presidential elections.
- Colonial Gang commentator Sekou Hamilton was the former editor of the Aerilon Gazette.
Aquarion
- Aquarion's Quorum representative voted for Zarek in the Vice Presidential elections.
Canceron
- Canceron's Quorum representative is named Robin Wenutu.
Caprica
- Caprica looks extremely similar to Earth.
- Caprica City was the seat of government of the Colonies.
- The city of Delphi on Caprica contains a historical museum (where the Arrow of Apollo was) and a large spaceport.
- Helo and Starbuck were stranded on Caprica.
- Caprica's Quorum representative was Gaius Baltar for a short period of time. He was then elected Vice President.
- There is an active resistance movement against the Cylons on Caprica.
- Cylon Aaron Doral claimed to be from a small town on Caprica called Oasis.
- There are Cylon-run "farms" full of women on Caprica to try and develop a human-Cylon hybrid.
Gemenon
- Gemenon's natives are known for being extremely religious, as well as of their literal interpretation of the Sacred Scrolls.
- Gemenon's Quorum representative is named Sarah Porter. She believes that Laura Roslin is fulfilling the prophecy laid out in the Book of Pythia and will lead the fleet to Earth.
- Roslin's Marine prison guard Corporal Venner was also from Gemenon, and he apparently also believes that Roslin is the Prophet.
- Galactica crew chief Galen Tyrol is apparently from Gemenon.

Picon
- Colonial Fleet Headquarters was located at Picon. When Picon was destroyed, direct command of the fleet came from the battlestar Atlantia until its destruction.
- After Picon was destroyed, the President of the Colonies offered an unconditional surrender to the Cylons, which they ignored.
- Ellen Tigh claimed to have been at the spaceport on Picon when the attack started, "on her way home".
- Picon's Quorum representative is named Safiya Sanne.
Sagittaron
- Sagitarrons claim to have endured centuries of exploitation by the other twelve colonies up until the unified colonial government was formed.
- Some Sagittarons are still bitter, and some, like Tom Zarek, continue to commit brutal terrorist acts against the Colonial government.
- Some Sagittarons do not agree with the violent means of people like Tom Zarek, such as Galactica CIC non-com Anastasia Dualla.
- 5,251 Sagittarons survived the Cylon attack.
- Tom Zarek survived because he was being transported from Sagittaron to Caprica for a parole hearing.
Scorpia
- There was a fleet shipyard capable of servicing several battlestars and smaller ships at Scorpion. The battlestar Pegasus, at least two other battlestars and several smaller ships were at Scorpion Fleet Shipyard when the Cylons attacked.
Tauron
- Tauron's Quorum representative voted for Baltar in the Vice Presidential elections.
- Admiral Helena Cain of the battlestar Pegasus was from Tauron.
Virgon
- Virgon's Quorum representative was named Marshall Bagott.
- Representative Bagott nominated Tom Zarek for Vice President.
