[edit] Plot Overview

Our protagonists stumble upon Haru, a Earth Bender, and follow him to his village. The village has been under control of the Fire Nation for 5 years and Earth Bending is forbidden. Haru is caught for saving the life of an old man and imprisoned. Feeling strong empathy for Haru, Katara does a rather unimpressive display of fake Earth Bending and fools the Fire Nation into taking her prisoner too.

The prisoners are taken to an offshore coal depot along with hundreds of other Earth Benders taken captive. Katara witnesses their broken spirits and tries very hard to enkindle in them a desire for freedom, but no one listens to her. With the help of her friends and some coal, courtesy of Aang, the Earth Benders regain their spirit and bend their way to freedom. Soon after they depart, Prince Zuko arrives and discovers Katara's necklace.
