Season Two of American Horror Story, entitled American Horror Story: Asylum, premiered on October 17, 2012. The season is primarily set in 1964 and follows the stories of the patients and staff at Briarcliff Mental Institution, a sanatorium owned and operated by the region's Catholic Church. Briarcliff is run by Sister Jude Martin (Jessica Lange), a harsh, disciplinary nun who seeks to escalate to prominent power alongside Monsignor Timothy Howard (Joseph Fiennes), who dreams of becoming Pope.
