Season One of American Horror Story, retroactively entitled American Horror Story: Murder House, premiered on October 5, 2011. The first season is set in modern-day Los Angeles and centers around the Harmon family: husband Ben (Dylan McDermott), wife Vivien (Connie Britton), and daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga). Seeking to re-establish their family after Ben's affair and Vivien's stillbirth, they move into an expensive mansion unaware of its haunted past.

| The Harmon family relocates from Boston to Los Angeles, unwittingly moving into a haunted mansion. The family is introduced to their intrusive neighbors Constance (Jessica Lange) and Adelaide (Jamie Brewer) and maid Moira (Frances Conroy), who appears to Ben as a young seductress (Alexandra Breckenridge).
