Winx Club — Season One

It Feels Like Magic is the first episode of the first season of Winx Club, and the first episode overall.

One day, an ordinary girl named Bloom meets a girl named Stella in the forest and discovers her powers within as they fight two trolls who are after them. Stella invites Bloom to join her at the Alfea School for Fairies in the Realm of Magix.

Plot Overview

We begin in the town of Gardenia, where a girl named Bloom is riding a bike down the road, with her pet rabbit, Kiko. Bloom and Kiko stop in a forest, and Kiko runs off to find some acorns while Bloom sits down to enjoy an apple. Suddenly, Kiko comes running back, being chased by a giant ogre and many goblins. Bloom and Kiko hide behind a tree, and they see a mysterious girl named Stella with strange powers fighting the ogre and goblins. As the goblins gang up on Stella, Bloom taunts them and they try to attack her instead. Suddenly, Bloom has some sort of magic power that she uses to fight. Stella says this power is called “Winx”. Unfortunately, she has no time to explain as the goblins and ogre are still afoot. Bloom and Stella fight the goblins and ogre, but one of the goblins tears off a piece of Bloom's pants. The ogre and goblins teleport to another realm, and Stella faints from exhaustion.

In the next scene, Bloom is sleeping, and her parents wake her up. They tell her that someone is sleeping in the guest room, and Bloom realizes what happened wasn't a dream. Bloom talks about what happened, but her parents don't believe her. Stella wakes up, and tells Bloom how amazing she was fighting off the goblins and ogre and starts talking about magic. Bloom's parents think they're both nuts, and Bloom's dad picks up the phone to call a doctor, but Stella turns the phone into a carrot and cabbage.

Meanwhile, the ogre, known as Knut, is confronted by three witches. Knut shows the piece of Bloom's pants to the witches. The witches then summon a hunter troll to use the scent of the pants piece to track down Bloom and Stella. Knut and the hunter troll teleport back to Gardenia to find Bloom.

Back in Bloom's house, Bloom tries to summon her powers again, but can't. Stella tells her about the Alfea School for Fairies, located in the Realm of Magix. Stella suggests that Bloom enrolls there, but Bloom is unsure. Stella sends herself and Bloom through a portal that leads to the Realm of Magix, outside of Alfea. Bloom takes a look at Alfea, as well as the two nearby schools – the Cloud Tower School for Witches, and the Red Fountain School for Specialists. Bloom still needs more time to think it over, but Stella invites the boys from the Red Fountain School to visit her that night.

Later that night, Knut and his goblins find Bloom and wreck her house searching for her. Bloom and Stella get ready to confront them, but then the Red Fountain boys show up and take care of them. Stella introduces Bloom to the Red Fountain boys: Riven, Timmy, Brandon, and Sky. Brandon tells Bloom he hopes to see her at Alfea, and Bloom decides she wants to go.

Bloom and Stella bring this up to Bloom's parents, and they decide they want to see it first before they let her enroll. Stella uses her magic scepter to transport all four of them to Alfea

Dub Edits

• Was It A Dream?: In the dub, the scenes from Bloom in bed to her chat with Mitzi was moved to after she witnesses the fight with Stella and Knut, and the dialogue was changed. Originally, in this scene, Bloom's mom tricked her into thinking it was time for school, but in the dub, she noticed Stella in the guest room, and Bloom realized what happened wasn't a dream.
• Does Bloom Still Enjoy Fairies?: Other rewrites in this scene include in the original, where Bloom is still into fairies, to the dub, where she seemingly outgrew it.
• Inconsistent Pants: One of the goblins tore off a piece of Bloom's pants, but since in the dub, they moved the scenes around, Bloom's pants are fixed when she wakes up. Granted, the viewers would assume that she put on a new pair, but later, when Stella wakes up, they're ripped again, and Bloom even points that out. However, in both versions, they are intact when they go through the portal.
• What is Winx?: Stella tells Bloom she has Winx in the dub, but in the original, the name "Winx" is not mentioned until the next episode, and even then, its definition is not given.
• Stella Jumps the Gun Again: When Stella and Bloom go to Magix, she talks about Red Fountain and Cloud Tower in the dub, and montages are shown of scenes of later episodes. In the original, she didn't even mention them until the next episode. (She also didn't mention that she invited the specialists over until before the battle with the trolls, and even then she didn't mention Red Fountain.)
• Rules or Capacity?: In the original, Stella says she is not allowed to bring Bloom's parents to Alfea because it's against the rules. In the dub, she says that she's just not allowed to use the portal because non-magic beings can't go through it.

Terminology Changes

• The portal that Stella and Bloom take to Magix is called the Bottomless Postcard in the original, but the dub just calls it a portal.

Deleted Scenes

• A scene where Bloom's parents give her a new bike is removed, since she already had the bike in the beginning.
• After the hunter troll loses Bloom's scent, a scene with Bloom's parents talking about Stella being a fairy is removed.
• A scene where Mitzi complains about the noise around her house is removed.

Allusions and References

• 4Kids appears to have recycled some of the background music from the original version of Pokémon for this episode, when Bloom is waking up.
