Plot Overview
Melissa Reimers of South Florida is a stay-at-home mother and her husband, Paul is a former lieutenant in the U.S. Navy; together, Melissa and Paul keep a tight rein on their five children: 15-year-old Molly, 13-year-old Coby, 11-year-old Jordan, 10-year-old Jay and 8-year-old Lucy. Melissa homeschools her children to protect them from negative outside influences; the family attends church twice on Sundays and stick to a strict vegetarian diet. The Reimers have raised their children with a lot of rules and daily chores, and if they misbehave, they are disciplined with a leather strap called "The Whacker."
Melissa trades lives with Cindy Bittner of Virginia, who works as a bus driver; Cindy's husband, Steve works as a customer service representative and is the stepfather of Cindy's teenage daughters, 19-year-old Stevie & 15-year-old Blake. The family enjoys junk food, watching television and tend to argue with each other a lot. Cindy and Mike encourage their daughters to be freethinking and independent, and the girls are allowed to dress & behave however they want.
