Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities is a 13-part miniseries about events in the Australian underworld between 1976 and 1986 particularly in the cities of Sydney and Melbourne. It is a follow up to 2008's Underbelly but is actually a prequel. There are very few connections between the two stories but Caroline Craig narrates as Jacqui James again and draws some parallels between the events. Jacqui's mother, Liz Cruickshank, is the main female cop in the new series, who like Jacqui is a composite character of several real life cops. Most of the major criminals are not directly connected but since both are true stories the events of A Tale of Two Cities do establish the criminal world in which the first series, which starts 10 years after the end of this one, takes place. A third series is planned that will focus on the corrupt New South Wales police in the 80s and 90s and will be more of a direct sequel to this series.
