Ultraman Tiga (1996–97) is a science fiction action program set in an entirely new universe in the Ultraman series. This series picks up the Ultraman franchise after 15 years of hiatus.

Set between 2007 and 2010, giant monsters and aliens appear as prophecized in order to bring an uncontrollable chaos over the planet. In response to these creatures, the Terrestrial Peaceble Concert is created with a branch known as Global Unlimited Task Squad. This group uncovered information about an ancient civilization of giants who defended prehistoric civilizations 30 million years in the past. The researchers find one intact statue of the giant, which reacts with Daigo Madoka to form a single light being known as Ultraman Tiga.

The series was dubbed for American audiences by 4Kids Entertainment and was aired during FOX's morning cartoon block, Fox Box on September 14, 2002. However, 4Kids edits and changes were significant enough to alienate the show's target audience and it was pulled from the air after twenty episodes. These changes include attempts to make the series more child friendly (i.e. there are no deaths, the plots are simplified and the motivations of the aliens are watered down), increased expositional dialogue and blatant humor. Where as the Japanese series was subtle, the American dub has replaced these moments with fart jokes and blatant jabs that the original material. The dub also transformed Captain Irum from a smart, grounded person into an airhead.
