Plot Overview
They arrive in their next world, a forest next to a giant lake. There are no buildings or people in sight. Mokona says it senses a strong power beneath the surface of the lake. Syaoran says he'll go down and look for it, diving into the water. He looks around, eventually coming back up with nothing. Sakura is waiting for him. They sit down, and she tells him about her memory of the birthday party with the empty chair. Syaoran remembers that he was sitting in that chair. When she says that even though no one was there she was really happy, he is less upset.
Syaoran remembers talking to Sakura that day, and she asked him when his birthday was. He doesn't know because he was adopted. So she gives him a birthday, the same as hers. Syaoran goes home, where his father (Fujitaka) asks him how the party was. Syaoran talks about his conversation with Sakura. Fujitaka is surprised, then he hugs Syaoran. Later, Syaoran looks at a history book, and Fujitaka asks him if he likes archaeology. Fujitaka goes on to explain how there's always more than meets the eye.
Back at the lake, the water starts to glow. Syaoran dives in. A giant white fish emerges from the water and asks Sakura why she is there. She tries to answer, but passes out. She has a flash of memory of her father and Fujitaka introducing her to a little boy who needed a friend. The boy remains unidentified in her dream.
Kurogane and Fai are wandering in the woods, looking for people. Kurogane sounds scared and grateful to Fai, until it is revealed that Mokona is merely imitating his voice. Kurogane and Fai go back. When Syaoran comes out of the water, everyone is looking at the sleeping Sakura, and Mokona scares Syaoran by overreacting. After they clear that up, Fai tells Syaoran he need not worry so much, that he should take it easy once in a while.
Sakura wakes up, and runs to the lake. It turns out she thought Syaoran was still in there, so once she notices he isn't, she stops running. He takes her for a dive under the water. He remembers when they were younger, and she showed him some birds in the sky, and he smiled. They swim down to the bottom, where Syaoran shows her a tiny city.
The glowing fish confronts them, and again asks Sakura why she is there. This time, she can answer. As the fish swims away, it drops a glowing scale that Syaoran catches. He takes it back up to the surface where everyone else is. Mokona says that the power it sensed was coming from there. There is no feather. Fai tells Sakura she shouldn't worry and should try to have fun. Sakura agrees, and says she'll try not to slow them down.
Mokona teleports them out of that world. Syaoran thinks about how he just wants Sakura to keep smiling.
Notes
Locations
- Unnamed: There is a lake with a tiny city at the bottom, lit by the glow from a fish that swims overhead.
Character History
- Both Sakura and Syaoran have the same birthday: April 1. This is only because Syaoran does not remember his actual birth date, so Sakura gave him hers.
- Mokona claims to have 108 secret skills, two of which are seen here: the ability to mimic people's voices, and overdramatic acting.
Arc Advancement
Happenings

Characters
- We find out that Syaoran was adopted, and remembers nothing from before Fujitaka took him in.
- Sakura's Memory: Though she does not get another feather back, Sakura has a new memory. She remembers her father introducing her to a boy adopted by Fujitaka. He tells her the boy had a rough life and his heart has hardened. Though he has started to change since being adopted, he still needs help opening up. Because of the deal made with Yūko, Sakura does not remember that the little boy is Syaoran. Syaoran does remember that Sakura took him to see the birds in order to get him to smile.
Referbacks

CLAMP References
- Cardcaptor Sakura: Clow Reed is the previous king of Clow, King Touya's and Princess Sakura's father. We also get to see Syaoran's father, Fujitaka, again. This is a reversal from Cardcaptor Sakura, where Fujitaka is Touya's and Sakura's dad, and Clow Reed is Syaoran's ancestor. To complicate things further, Fujitaka Kinomoto is one of the reincarnations of Clow Reed.
- Cardcaptor Sakura: The way Princess Sakura falls asleep suddenly, and slowly gains her strength back with each feather is very similar to the Sakura Card story arc from Cardcaptor Sakura. There, Sakura Kinomoto had to transform all of the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards, which drained a lot of energy from her. As she transformed more cards, she became stronger and would not fall asleep as often.
