Tsubasa Chronicle — Season One

The Resolution to Live is the nineteenth episode of the first season of Tsubasa Chronicle, and the nineteenth episode overall. Kurogane and Fai investigate the I-1 oni while Syaoran has to face down a strange oni outside of the café.

Plot Overview

The singer at Clover begins to sing a song, which plays through the other two scenes: Syaoran and Sakura are back at the café, cleaning; Fai and Kurogane are battling the oni that have surrounded them. They hold them off well enough, until Fai is knocked back into a wall with a red blast. Kurogane unleashes a powerful attack, destroying the rest. He looks down to notice that his sword has completely broken. The song ends. Fai starts to clap from his position in the rubble of the wall. He gets up and says he's fine, though his leg feels a bit funny, but it won't kill him. Kurogane says it's not that he won't die from it, but he can't die. He tells Fai that he will kill in self-defense, and will protect others who are trying to defend themselves from being killed, but he doesn't like those who don't value their lives - like Fai.

Back at the café, two people come in, a teenaged boy and a young woman. The male locks eyes with Syaoran, and after confirming that he is "Little Puppy", he attacks with a sword. Syaoran dodges his attacks, and then the boy goes to use a special magic attack - but is stopped by Kusanagi. All of them end up sitting down for a meal, though the boy, Ryuoh, notes that Syaoran's reaction time is a bit slow on the right.

Fai and Kurogane finally get to the bar, but on talking to the bartender, find out they got there to late to talk to the person who has seen the I-1 oni - the singer.

At the cafe, Syaoran and Ryu talk about fighting some more. Syaoran is overly polite, which gets on Ryuoh's nerves. Yuzuriha says they are becoming friends, and she would like to be friends too, with Sakura. When they are getting ready to leave, Yuzuriha says Ryuoh will pick up the tab. When he protests, she points out that he would have wrecked the café if Kusanagi hadn't of stopped him. He pays, and then Souma brings up the rumor about the new type of oni. Just then, outside, a cloaked figure standing atop a telephone pole is watching the cafe. He says Syaoran's name. Oni start to appear. Inside, they sense the oni.

They fight the oni, beating them back. One is an R-4, and after Ryuoh attacks it, it changes shape. According to Kusanagi, this is something it shouldn't be able to do. Syaoran protects Ryu from an attack, but he ends up getting tossed around. Syaoran recovers, but Ryuoh tells him he needs a weapon to kill an oni this powerful. Yuzuriha tells Sakura to run, and she does, but the oni attacks her anyway, and Syaoran rushes in to protect her. He gets knocked aside, and the oni starts to pull Sakura in. The combined attacks of the other four hunters finally destroy the oni.

They talk about the oni, and how it was unusual because it could change forms and attacked a normal person (Sakura). The cloaked person is still watching from above, and notes that Syaoran doesn't react to his right side. He leaves. Fai and Kurogane come back, and Kurogane is surprised to see Souma. He starts talking to her like she's the Souma he knows from his world, but this is the first time he's met this Souma.

Inside, Syaoran bandages up Fai's leg. Fai mentions what Yūko said about meeting people who are different but the same. The mysterious hooded stranger is standing beneath a cherry blossom tree.

Meanwhile, Kurogane sits outside the café, brooding. Syaoran joins him outside, and asks Kurogane to teach him how to fight with a sword.

• Ryu mentions that he killed a RO-5 the other day, while Kusanagi killed a RO-4. These the ninth and tenth highest levels of oni.

• Fai and Kurogane battle some oni. Because of this battle, they get to the bar Clover too late to meet the person who has seen the I-1 oni.

• Syaoran and Sakura meet some new oni slayers. The entire group is attacked by an unusual oni.

• Fai apparently doesn't value his life. This angers Kurogane.

• Syaoran asks Kurogane to teach him how to use a sword. He will not be able to kill the higher-level oni without a weapon.

• Someone from Syaoran's past appears. He wears a cloak and does not get attacked by oni.
