Season Nine of Top Gear was set to premiere on October 8, 2006. However, Richard Hammond was injured during the filming of a segment and the BBC postponed the premiere until Richard Hammond had recovered from the brain injuries he suffered in the high-speed crash. James May said he and fellow presenter Jeremy Clarkson would not do the show without Richard.
