Season Six of Too Close for Comfort premiered on April 5, 1986.

The show was renamed The Ted Knight Show for this season, and the new series title was used in its opening credit sequence during this season's original broadcast run. Following the death of series star Ted Knight on August 22, 1986, the Ted Knight Show episodes were added to the Too Close for Comfort rerun syndication package and had its opening credits modified to replace the show's new title with the original show name.
