The Roman Holidays was an animated comedy airing in 1972 on NBC's Saturday morning line-up.
What The Flintstones did for the Stone Age, The Roman Holidays tries to do for Bread and Circuses. The Holidays were a typical family in Rome, circa 63 A.D., living at the Venus de Milo Arms apartments. The head of the household is Augustus ("Gus" for short), an engineer for the Tycoonius construction company. His wife, Laurel, helps keep Gus on an even keel. They have two children--Happius (or "Happy" Holiday--get it?) is their son and Precocia is their aptly named daughter. They have a pet lion--Brutus--and it violates their lease's clause of "no pets." Their landlord, Evictus, would love nothing more than to evict them on that matter alone.
The Roman Holidays aired just the 1972-73 season, starting at 10 AM on NBC and getting its ratings brains beat out by The New Scooby-Doo Movies on CBS. At mid-season, NBC moved it to 8:30 AM. It has since been replayed on USA and Cartoon Network. Western Publishing put out four issues of The Roman Holidays under its Gold Key Comics line (Feb. 1973 - Nov. 1973). The first three issues were drawn by Pete Alvarado, and the last issue was drawn by H-B layout artist Jack Manning.
