The Great Grape Ape Show was originally a segment of The Tom & Jerry/Grape Ape Show in 1975. It was shelved in December 1976 after the Tom & Jerry show was reduced to 30 minutes so The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour could expand to 90 minutes. Grape Ape returned to ABC in the fall of 1977, airing Sunday mornings.
The series starred a gentle-natured, childish 40-foot purple gorilla, who with his pal Beegle Beagle sought adventure and fortune wherever they could find it.
A year later, Grape Ape would become a teammate for the Yogi Yahooeys on Laff-a-Lympics.
Warner Bros. Television now distributes the show in syndication.
