The Dick Cavett Show is a talk show hosted by Dick Cavett which switched networks, times and running lengths several times over its 39-year run. It began as an ABC daytime show (called This Morning) in 1968, then switched to primetime for one season, then finally ended up in late night. Although Cavett did a monologue, had sketches and interviewed guests, with his dry wit and guests from the academic world, he was seen as a cerebral alternative to the then-king of late night, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. In 1975, ABC cancelled the series, and it was briefly picked up by CBS for primetime. At last, it moved to PBS and ran for another five years.
