Episode Overview

Segments

"On-Location" Report

  • End of an Error, Ed Helms - The testicle electrodes dangle quietly tonight after the closure of Abu Ghraib prison.

Headlines

  • Iraq Civil War: Sects and Violence - Reports of the escalation of violence in Iraq the past week can mean only one thing: exaggerated reports. Damn you reporting! Actually things in Iraq are going very well. Not great big smiley face well... more like a smiley face with a tongue hanging out... and maybe part of his face blown off.

Studio Report

  • Rob Corddry - There's civil war in Iraq, and it's a great sign! Just look how fast they're growing up. At this rate, in a couple months, they'll let Black people vote!

Recurring Segments

  • Indecision 2006: Race for Office - Black Republicans. The very phrase conjures up images of there not being any. Yet the GOP has long had close ties with African-Americans, from Lincoln, who freed them from slavery, to Strom Thurmon, who banged them in the upstairs dressing closet. And this year Republicans are taking action, fielding not 1... not 2... not 3... but as many as less than 5 African-American candidates for major office! Hopefully they will have more luck than Alan Keyes did in Illinois, who was done in by his campaign slogan: "I'm Bats**t Insane and Don't Even Live Here"

Guest

Bruce Bartlett appeared on the show promoting his book Impostor: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan legacy.. They talk about his getting fired from the National Center for Policy Analysis, a conservative think tank, for writing the book. They also talk about Bush not living up to conservative ideals, as well as his complete ineptness, and speculated if by the end of his term Bush would end up doing the kind of damage that just takes a cleaning house, or if we'd need to call in the Extreme Makeover team.

Checking in With Colbert

Colbert pulls a cheap stunt to wake up the crowd, who are probably quite sleepy after a half-hour of the Daily Show.

Moment of Zen

An old clip of game show To Tell the Truth, hosted by Lynn Swann, former Pittsberg Steeler, who is now running for governor of Pennsylvania, and was featured earlier on the show in the Indecision 2006 segment.
