Granddad's Fight is the fourth episode of the first season of The Boondocks.

Plot Overview

During a run-in in the mall parking lot that quickly escalates into a fight, Granddad gets his ass whooped by a blind old man named Colonel H. Stinkmeaner. He struggles with putting the incident behind him and keeping his ego intact while being teased mercilessly by Riley. This culminates to where Riley actually sets up a rematch between Granddad and Stinkmeaner and in his rage, Granddad savagely beats Stinkmeaner to a bloody pulp. After watching the fight, the spectators gang up on Riley as the fight didn't live up to its hype, but by throwing a chair, Riley manages to create a riot between the spectators while he escapes. Feeling guilty, Granddad decides to hold a funeral for Stinkmeaner, but Riley quickly reminds Granddad that he was the one that killed Stinkmeaner, he quickly reprimands him and prays.

• Both Uncle Ruckus and Tom Dubois appear in this episode. Tom doesn't do much except get beaten blindfolded by Granddad.

The Show

• The Fix: This episode was aired first during the November 25th edition of Adult Swim's Friday Night Fix, an online only airing of several episodes between midnight and 6AM on Fridays.
• The dream sequence with Huey and the blind samurai is a reference that works two ways. One towards Ninja Scroll, and another towards Samurai Champloo.
• The DVD Huey shows to Granddad is a reference to the popular Japanese character Zatoichi, who has appeared in over 25 films since 1962.

Allusions and References

• Huey's offhand comment about FEMA being the "leading killer of black men" is a reference to the tragic (and, some say, racially-motivated) mishandling of federal aid following Hurricane Katrina.

  Riley: Oh man no! New shoes!
  Huey: I've said this before; expensive sneakers are like a hundred-dollar land mines; step on one and BOOM; a perfectly rational black man can explode.
