The Archie Show is an animated comedy that aired on CBS. It was the first in a line of successful Archie cartoon shows.
Essentially it was the Archie comic books through the medium of animation (under Filmation's production values). Each half hour was comprised of two Archie cartoons as bookends, and in the middle was a dance segment (featuring movements no flesh-and-blood human could do without sustaining a traumatic injury) and a song by the Archies. It begat a top 40 hit on Kirschner records, "Bang-Shang-A-Lang." Two thirty-second blackout segments with Jughead were also featured.
Episodes were seen in 1969 on The Archie Comedy Hour and in 1970 on Archie's Funhouse Starring the Giant Jukebox.
The Archie Show was produced by Filmation Associates. Classic Media, which now owns some of the Filmation properties including its shows based on the Archie Comics properties, is the show's TV and DVD distributor (pending Comcast/NBC's acquisition of the Classic Media library).
