Race Overview

While navigating through the picturesque land of Brazil, frustration gets the better of one racer who is lost and has trouble operating a manual transmission. During an intense challenge, some teams are neck and neck as they scale a waterfall while others are left watching as other teams pass them by. Car troubles cause several teams to doubt their place in the race including Lisa & Joni. BJ & Tyler come in first place while Lisa & Joni are eliminated.

Road Block

  • Fire Drill
    • One team member has to climb one of three of Edifício Copan's fire escapes. Once at the top the team member will rappel 400 feet to the courtyard.
      • Fire Escape 1: Jeremy, Ray, Desiree, Danielle and Fran
      • Fire Escape 2: Joseph, Lake, Dave and Joni
      • Fire Escape 3: BJ
    • Rappel Order: Jeremy, Joseph, BJ, Lake, Ray, David, Desiree, Danielle, Joni, Fran
  • The racers have to travel to the Barra Funda Bus Station and take one of three chartered busses to Brotas, Brazil.
    • Bus 1: 10:15 AM
      • Eric & Jeremy, BJ & Tyler and Joseph & Monica take this bus.
    • Bus 2: 11:15 AM
      • Ray & Yolanda, Wanda & Desiree, and David & Lori take this bus.
    • Bus 3: 12:15 PM
      • Danielle & Dani, Fran & Barry, Lake & Michelle and Lisa & Joni take this bus.

Detour

  • Press It
    • Teams travel to Camping Bela Vista, an old sugarcane plantation, press 15 canes, and distill 500mL of ethanol which they then put in their VW Beetles.
      • David & Lori, Wanda & Desiree and Lisa & Joni choose this option
  • Climb It
    • Teams travel to Usina Jacare hike to a waterfall and climb 90 feet using mechanical ascenders.
      • BJ & Tyler, Joseph & Monica, Eric & Jeremy, Ray & Yolanda, Lake & Michelle, Fran & Barry and Danielle & Dani choose this option.
        • The racers finish in this order: Tyler, Monica, BJ, Joseph, Eric, Jeremy, Ray, Yolanda, Lake, Fran, Michelle, Danielle, Barry and Dani.
  • The teams are directed to travel twenty miles to Fazenda Primavera da Serra, a 19th century coffee plantation and the Pit Stop.

Pit Stop

  • Primavera da Serra, a coffee plantation in Brotas, Brazil.
    • BJ & Tyler win a trip for two to Tahiti from Travelocity.
    • Lisa & Joni are the second team eliminated when they come in tenth.
