Plot Overview
The episode opens on a shot of space. Four tentacled alien probes streak toward Earth; three turn away, while on continues onward. Back on Earth, Robin and Starfire are sitting on top of a Ferris wheel, admiring a fireworks display and talking about Starfire's adjustment to living on Earth. Suddenly, the probe swoops in and snatches Starfire screaming from her seat with its tentacles. She frees herself from its grasp with a starbolt and flees, but it gives chase.
Meanwhile, Cyborg and Beast Boy are playing a carnival game as Raven watches impassively. They win a giant stuffed chicken toy and present it to the nonplussed Titan. Robin jumps in and tells them that Starfire is in trouble. They run off, Raven discarding her unwanted prize. Starfire leads the probe over to them, and they do battle, Robin eventually destroying the probe by ripping out some crucial circuitry.
Back in the Tower's operations center, Starfire's celebration of gratitude is interrupted by an unannounced visitor -- another Tamaranian girl, who turns out to be Blackfire, Starfire's older sister. She presents Starfire with a huge green gemstone that is identified as a Centauri moon diamond. Starfire introduces her to her friends, but Blackfire already seems to know much about them, and quickly ingratiates herself with them, including Robin, much to Starfire's consternation. She interrupts by asking Blackfire how she came to Earth, but Blackfire again holds the team's attention with the story of her daring escape from a black hole.
On a ship in deep space, the other three probes return to their launch tubes; the fourth tube remains empty. The ship is manned by the aliens Kai and Cron, who are apparently pursuing a Tamaranian. From the probe's failure to return, they deduce that their target is on Earth. The remaining three probes are all sent to capture their quarry.
Starfire searches the Tower for her sister. She finds her in the workout room, embracing Robin. Although it turns out that she was only demonstrating martial-arts moves, Starfire is still aghast. Blackfire leads Robin away to teach him more techniques.
Later that evening, Starfire suggests that the Titans all watch a movie together. Blackfire, wearing one of Starfire's costumes, suggests going to a party, which the team is much more receptive to. Starfire is saddened that her friends seem to have abandoned her.
At the party, everyone but Starfire is having a great time. Even Raven is chatting up a Goth boy. Starfire, however, can't seem to get in the spirit; then, she becomes a laughingstock when she misinterprets a bit of Earth slang. Meanwhile, the alien spaceship has reached Earth, and dispatches its remaining three probes.
Back on Earth, Starfire is sitting dejected on the roof. Robin comes up to comfort her. Starfire explains that while she is glad to see her sister, she feels very overshadowed. As Robin begins to speak, Blackfire appears and drags him off to dance. As Starfire mopes, a probe attacks her.
Inside the club, Beast Boy notices that Starfire is under attack, and calls out to Cyborg, just before being dragged off by another probe. Raven notices the commotion, and soon all four are battling the probes.
Blackfire has dragged Robin away, but when he sees the battle in progress, he moves to join it, calling for Blackfire to follow him. Starfire is knocked into a dumpster, and one of the probes grabs it and flies off. Robin cuts of its arms with a birdarang, and the other Titans make to attack. Before they can do so, however, Blackfire flies in and destroys all three probes with beams from her eyes. Impressed, Cyborg offers her a position on the team, to Starfire's shock.
Back at the tower, Starfire stands on the roof, prepared to leave forever. Robin interrupts her flight to talk to her, but before they can, the alien ship arrives and one of the aliens snags Starfire with a tentacle. As the ship flies off, Robin makes a jump for it, but misses.
On board the ship, Starfire is placed inside a force field as an alien tells her that she is being taken to Centauri to be punished for her crimes. Robin is hanging under the ship, however, and he suddenly comes forward to demand Starfire's release. The two fight until the alien launches his tentacle at Robin. Robin uses his cape to deflect it into an engine, putting it out of commission. Robin takes down the forcefield, and he and Starfire abandon ship before it crashes to Earth.
Back on the ground, all the Titans regroup. They prepare for combat as the aliens approach. Instead, the aliens claim to be police officers, and that Starfire is wanted for crimes in the Centauri system. Starfire denies ever being to Centauri, but Robin puts two and two together and deduces that Blackfire is the criminal -- she gave the Centauri moon diamond to Starfire. As he explains this to the officers, the Titans notice Blackfire flying off into space. In a rage, Starfire takes off after her.
Starfire catches up with Blackfire, and demands that she surrender to the police. Blackfire refuses, and the two fight. Blackfire belittle's Starfire's skill, but Starfire lands a starbolt on Blackfire, distracting her long enough for an officer to grab her with a tentacle. As she is being reeled in, Blackfire swears revenge.
The next day, Starfire and Robin are sitting on the roof of the tower. Starfire says she is glad that Blackfire did not replace her, but Robin assures Starfire that she is irreplacable.
Notes
- Ron Perlman is credited as Slade in every episode of Season 1, even though he plays no role in this and several other episodes.
Comic Book Parallels
- The comic version of Blackfire was unable to fly. She sold Starfire into slavery, so the two were already on bad terms before she came to Earth.
- Starfire mentions the Gordanians during the fireworks display. This was the race that enslaved Starfire in the comics (and in the series, as it is later revealed).

- Robin and Starfire: The relationship between Robin and Starfire begins to develop. This episode is primarily focused on Starfire because of her sister's introduction.

Quotes
- Robin: Cotton candy?
Starfire: The last time I ate a ball of cotton, it was white, and it did not taste very--
- Robin: Whatever that thing was, it can't hurt you now.
Starfire: But... why did it wish to hurt me at all?
- Beast Boy: Told you we'd win you something.
Raven: A giant chicken. I must be the luckiest girl in the world.
- Beast Boy: (to Raven) See? SHE thinks I'm funny.
Raven: Statistically, I suppose someone has to.
- Starfire: Friends! I invite you to join me in the togetherness of a stay-home movie night. I bring you popcorn and non-cotton candies. Tell me, what sort of movie shall we view?
Robin: Action!
Beast Boy: Comedy!
Cyborg: Sci-fi!
Raven: Horror.
Starfire: ...Perhaps a double-feature?
- Raven: This party is pointless.
Goth Boy: Everything's pointless. Wanna go talk about it?
- Partygoer: Hey, hot alien girl! You digging the scene?
Starfire: I did not know we were supposed to bring shovels.
- Starfire: Farewell, sister! Although you did betray and attack me, it was still very nice to see you.
- Robin: Hey, how are you doing?
Starfire: I am sad for my sister.
Robin: And for yourself?
Starfire: I am just glad that the truth was discovered before I was replaced.
Robin: What are you talking about?
Starfire: Well, you... everyone was having such fun with her, and then Cyborg said—
Robin: Look, your sister was... interesting, but she could never take your place. No one could ever take your place.
