Move

Why was this page moved? Especially since its basically a remake of the UK series, House of Cards (2013) is a much more appropriate title. --Pierre (talk) 11:22, 5 January 2014 (CST)

Search engine purposes, for now. When people are searching for "House of Cards" with a TV IV modifier, Google originally displayed the "House of Cards" disambig page before the Netflix "House of Cards (2013)" release, hurting the result of the latter for primary searches even though I'm fairly certain most people Googling House of Cards are looking for info on the USA release. Popularity is subjective, to be sure, so I'll be monitoring whether this change helps make a difference in the future; it's hard to tell right now because the page right now commands a low search result in Google. I'm more than willing to change it back to our unofficially-official policy if nothing tangible comes out of it, but I can't test URL optimization in a sandbox, so had to go about it this way. --Wizardryo\talk 19:10, 5 January 2014 (CST)
I must admit that I really don't like this tendency to base more and more changes on the TVIV on data that are only accessible to a few. And besides not going well with the democratic basis of the wiki concept, it also make it impossible to know when creating a page what to call it, AND it makes TVIV less consistent if pages are supposed to change names as public opinon change. For years the consensus has been that shows with the same name should be hold appart by either the premier year or country of origin. Any change to that should at least be voted upon before being made.
To keep the TVIV alive its not only important to help ppl finding the site, it's also just as important to keep the editors informed, and the SysOps involved in whats going on. ---Pierre (talk) 15:35, 7 January 2014 (CST)
I agree with you 100% and have been aiming to set up a Village Pump-esque backend page where editors can check out site notices and new additions -- for example, I just created a {{ch}} template to make interlinks less of a hassle to write out and it'd be simpler to just toss that addition up on such a page instead of messaging every relevant editor about it. I'll put it up even sooner now to ensure a little more transparency. We used to have a forum for this but it's fallen by the wayside. I stand by my other sweeping changes because most of them were based on years-old guidelines/limitations that were rendered obsolete or could be heavily improved with our current installation of MediaWiki (and honestly do not overwrite existing policies more than they add onto them), but you're absolutely right with this and bring up good points. I'll start reverting these back because having a "lead" main article will end up causing more problems than alleviating them. We run into other complications, such as what we do with Intelligence now that Intelligence (2014) is out, but I guess now's a better time than ever to revive our Voting section. :) (The even better news -- that new template I made won't break the links!) --Wizardryo\talk 16:00, 7 January 2014 (CST)
So, MediaWiki has a "move all subpages" option… that took a lot less time than I thought. I suppose we should the same with Intelligence… has this scenario ever come up before of a new show having the same name as an older one? Thanks again for voicing your input; it's much appreciated. --Wizardryo\talk 16:08, 7 January 2014 (CST)
