Heart is the seventeenth episode of the second season of Supernatural, and the thirty-ninth episode overall.

Plot Overview

The brutal death of a lawyer brings Sam and Dean to San Fransisco, where they soon discover that the deceased was a victim of a werewolf. His secretary, Madison, mentions that her ex boyfriend Kurt is stalking her. Whilst checking out his apartment, they hear a gunshot and run down to the alley to find a badly injured policeman, another victim of the werewolf. When Dean goes to Kurt's work to try and get some more info on him, Sam stays with Madison. Later on that night, Dean has successfully tracked Kurt back to his apartment, when he hears a loud crash and breaks in to find Madison standing over Kurt's dead body, after she in her werewolf form had killed him. She tries to attack Dean but he holds her off with a silver blade. The next morning, Madison has no recollection of her nightly escapades and so Sam bargains with Dean - Instead of killing her outright, they will try to cure her lycanthropy by killing the werewolf that sired her. Sam figures out that when she was mugged, she was also bitten by the mugger, who was a werewolf. Dean goes to stake out 'Hunters Point', the scene of the crime, and soon finds what he's looking for. The werewolf is Glen, Madison's next door neighbour. Dean shots him with silver bullets and returns to Madisons apartment to tell her. The boys then leave, but remain outside Madisons house in the Chevy to make sure she is fully cured. She soon spots them, and pointing out that it's not the most inconspicous car for a stake out, they should probably come into her flat and play some poker to pass the time. The sun soon rises and Madison is still human, so Dean leaves Sam and Madison alone to have a long farewell. They end up in bed together, but when the sun sets again, Madison turns into a werewolf once more and leaps out the window. The next morning, Sam calls Dean to her appartment, and Dean tells Madison that there is no cure for lycanthropy. Madison accepts this, and asks Sam to shot her in the heart to save her from a life of murder. Sam initially refuses, but when Dean takes the gun, he tells him that he has to do this, because it's what Madison wants. The show ends on Dean, staring into the distance, before a gunshot rings out and it cuts to black.
