• A reference is made back to the character of Meg, a woman possessed by a demon who appeared throughout the second half of Season 1. It is this demon that inhabits Sam.

• A reference to the episode "Playthings". In this episode Sam, drunk and depressed, makes Dean promise to kill him if he turns "dark side". Dean makes this promise but doesn't follow through in this episode.
