Strangers with Candy ran on Comedy Central for only two years, though it gained a small but ardent following for its ironic take on after-school specials. Each episode follows a strict formula wherein a conflict is presented and resolved in 22 minutes, usually concluding with the main character, Jerri Blank, addressing the audience to explain what she has learned. Much like the influential shows Seinfeld and The Simpsons, the authority figures are as deranged as those in their care and there is no actual lesson learned. Most episodes included variations on the school's marquee-style sign, and every one ended with cast members dancing over the credits.
Technically the show ran for two seasons- one consisting of ten episodes and one of twenty, but the DVD releases have split the second season in two.
