Nog and Jake are on the way to visit the Grand Nagus Zek when they are attacked by a Jem'Hadar vessel. They are rescued by the U.S.S. Valiant - a Defiant-class warship manned entirely by Starfleet Academy cadets.

• A costume error occurs in this episode. The captain of the valiant gave Nog a field promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. However, Nog's rank insignia throughout the episode is 1 gold pip and 1 black pip, indicating the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. The proper insignia would be 2 gold pips and one black pip.
