Allusions and References

  • Mulan: The story that Daisy relates to Marsha about the girl who goes to war in the place of her father, is Mulan, an animated film released by Disney in 1994 based loosely on the legend of Hua Mulan. After she goes through this story about a person she claims to have met, Daisy also sings a bit of "Reflections," a song from the film.
  • The A-Team: While talking to Brian, Marsha mentions that Mike plans on cleaning his guns and watching The A-Team before she inspires him to start painting again. The A-Team is an action series about a team of vigilantes usually hired to foil kidnappings and blackmail schemes. After leaving Brian's apartment, Marsha repeats Hannibal's famous catchphrase, "I love it when a plan comes together" while clamped down on a cigarette (typically, Hannibal smoked cigars while uttering this line).
  • Babylon 5: When Tim decides to get fired from his new comic shop job, he tells the owner that Babylon 5 is "a big pile of shit." Babylon 5 is an epic science fiction series written and developed by J. Michael Straczynski about a space station during the years of 2258 through 2262. It was broadcast on PTEN and TNT for five seasons, plus an additional six telefilms.
Tim: Derek? Babylon 5's a big pile of shit.
