Space Stars was an animated adventure/comedy series on NBC. It was a package show which featured five different segments in each episode, for a total of six segments:
- Space Ghost (two per episode)
- Teen Force
- The Herculoids
- Space Ghost
- Astro and the Space Mutts
- Space Stars Finale
Two of the segments were 'new episodes' of shows from the 1960s (The Herculoids and Space Ghost). Another two were new segments: Teen Force, featuring three young heroes from an alternate universe--Kid Comet, Elektra and Moleculad, and Astro and the Space Mutts featuring Astro, the pet dog from The Jetsons, as part of a team of crimefighting canines (along with fellow canines Cosmo and Dipper) along with their long-suffering human leader Space Ace. The last segment, Space Stars Finale, featured heroes from all of the other segments together.
Production of Space Stars began in 1980 but was delayed due to an animators' union strike. Production resumed in 1981 after the strike was settled and the show debuted that fall.
