Slings & Arrows is a critically acclaimed comedy drama which aired on Movie Central and The Movie Network in Canada and on the Sundance Channel in the United States. The series focuses on the troubles behind the scenes at the New Burbage Festival, which stages a season of Shakespearean plays each year.
The series focuses on Geoffrey Tennant, a Shakespearean actor who returns to New Burbage, where several years earlier he delivered an acclaimed portrayal of Hamlet under the direction of his mentor Oliver Welles and subsequently ended his career after suffering a nervous breakdown during a performance. The first season mostly deals with a staging of Hamlet with Hollywood actor Jack Crew in the lead role. The second season centres around MacBeth, a play Geoffrey believes isn't cursed, merely "extraordinarily difficult to stage effectively". The focus of the third and final season is King Lear and Charles Kingman, the dying actor Geoffrey has cast in the part.
