The Sundance Channel is a specialty cable that specializes in featuring critically acclaimed movies and independent films, as well as experimental projects from cutting-edge visionaries. The network was formed in 1996 as an offshoot of Robert Redford's Sundance Institute, with Viacom's Showtime Networks and NBC Universal serving as partial owners.
