Plot Overview

After learning about how Bobby died, Jay goes to bat for Darwyn in a big way, arguing that either Darwyn was not ultimately responsible for Bobby's death, or that it was "justifiable homicide". He and his boss meet with members of the Justice Department and the National Security Council, and present their case for Darwyn's ongoing work.

In the cell, Farik tells the other members that they have a problem. They are being funded through the sale of guns, drugs, and other illicit goods being trafficked through Mexico, but their runner has died. Darwyn and Christian volunteer to join Farik in a mission to Tijuana to reconnect the supply lines. When they arrive, they learn that the Mexican mob boss with whom they are working, Felix Ortiz, wants to strongarm a better deal. They agree to meet to renegotiate.

Jay is unsuccessful in his plea for support for Darwyn's ongoing work. The US government has decided that it will put a stop to the cell as soon as Farik crosses the Mexican border. Shortly afterwards, however, other intelligence discovers additional possible terrorist threats, and the government renews its support for Darwyn's undercover work.

At their meeting, Ortiz throws Farik a preposterous proposal. Farik has smuggled some guns into the meeting, however, and a gunfight ensues where Farik draws against Ortiz, killing him, and Darwyn is forced to kill one of Ortiz' bodyguards to protect Farik. Farik then renegotiates with Ortiz' second in command, and the supply lines are restored.

Quotes

  • Darwyn: So what'd you play with when you were a kid? AK-47s? RPGs?
Farik: ... Horses.
Christian: Horses? Wow, that sounds kind've cool, man. Tell us more.
Farik: If I did that, then I'd have to kill you, and then who'd back me up in Mexico?
  • NSC Representative: Then, the question that I have for you, and the question that the President would have is this. When the relative of your bad guy's next victim looks you in the eye and says, "you knew that these people had already killed someone, one of their own no less, and yet you left them out on the street where they went on to kill my loved one," what will your response be?
Ray: The truth, ma'am. "I'm very sorry for you loss. But this action may have enabled us to prevent thousands of other Americans from asking that same question.
  • Farik: Relax. Getting out of the US is easy; getting back in is the tricky part. If we do get pulled over, just stick to the truth. We're three friends who know each other from our bowling team on our way to my bachelor party.
Christian: Perfect. The one American custom I actually admire.
  • Ziad: (In Arabic) Are you serious? This is your backup... Ebony & Ivory?
  • Farik: Tell me Felix, what is the life expectancy of your dogs?
Ortiz: With proper care? 15 years.
Farik: ... May I suggest that you take proper care of yourself, and your organization?
  • Darwyn: I didn't know the border actually went into the ocean.
Christian: You built this wall to keep the Mexicans from coming over to do all the work you Americans refuse to do for yourselves. Like the French with the Algerians. You pay them shit to do all your shit work; treat them like shit, too. But, millions come anyway: Algerians to France, Mexicans to the USA. And what do they really get in the end? Corrupted and polluted by this shithole we call civilization. You know, there are probably thousands of illegal Mexican fish trying to swim across right now, man.
  • Christian: Fucking border patrol. They didn't suspect a thing.
Farik: Los Angelinos have seen it all: riots, wildfires, earthquakes, mudslides. Wait 'till they see us.
Darwyn: Wait 'till they do, indeed.
