History

Founded by Alliance Communications, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and multiple independent producers, Showcase subsequently came under full control of Alliance Atlantis, before the company dissolved and sold their assets. The channel was acquired in January 2008 by CW Media, a joint venture of Canwest and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners. After Canwest faced bankruptcy in 2009, Shaw Communications began negotiations to acquire Canwest's broadcasting assets, including Goldman Sachs' interest in CW Media. After the deal was approved by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), Shaw gained control over the former Canwest assets in October 2010, forming Shaw Media. On April 1, 2016, Corus acquired the broadcasting and cable assets of Shaw Media (including Showcase).
