Saul of the Mole Men is a fifteen-minute comedy series which aired Sunday nights at midnight eastern and pacific on Adult Swim. Much like recent Adult Swim originals 12 Oz. Mouse, The Venture Bros., and Frisky Dingo, the show has a serialized format. It is the second live action series to be broadcast on Adult Swim, with the first being Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! which premiered on the same night as Saul.
On a mission to the Earth’s core for the government’s STRATA agency, Saul Malone crashes his drill ship and stumbles upon the Mole Men. Baffled by their customs and rituals, Saul runs afoul of the Mole Men by injuring their elder leader, killing their god and spreading disease. But Saul of the Mole Men is about more than just a stranded scientist. It involves political intrigue, time travel, and, of course, vampires. The show is directed by Tom Stern, and written by Craig Lewis, Tom Stern, Josh Gardner, Peter Girardi, and Hugh Davidson.
The series resulted in a two-part special, Young Person's Guide to History, which centers on Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin, both of whom Clancy encountered in an episode of "Saul." The series left season one on a cliffhanger before being canceled. The last episode aired July 5, 2007.
The show's theme, "Saul of the Mole Men Theme," is composed by Tim Burns with lyrics by Craig Lewis, and vocals by Trey Parker.
