Red Dwarf/Terminology
From The TV IV
Languages
Although Red Dwarf did not develop highly documented languages of its own (like some science-fiction series have done), it does make use of several languages including an aritificial one, Esperanto.
- English
- Esperanto - Signs will frequently be written in English and Esperanto.
- GELF - The spoken language of at least one type of GELF.
- Mechanoid Hexadecimal
Glossary
Some English slang is included for the sake of the non-English. Also, for some reason much of the vocabulary is for swearing and cursing.

- bum - buttocks
- Dwarfer - A Red Dwarf crewmember; a Red Dwarf fan.

- Oh smeg, not again!
- Rimmer, smeg off!
- Note: In spite of rumors to the contrary the usage of smeg in the series is not meant to derive from the word smegma.
