Red Dwarf/Nanobots

Nanobots are microscopic robots, a form of nanotechnology. The nanobots in the Red Dwarf series were originally part of Kryten's self-repair mechanism, but in the episode Back to Reality they escaped and disassembled Red Dwarf.
The nanobots are able to communicate verbally with Kryten via the use of a specialized monitor. Although they can do a great deal of mischief, they are basically good and can be prevailed upon to do the right thing.
