C-Note is basically a good guy, doting on his wife Kacee and young daughter, Dede. Formerly a soldier in the army, he was shocked to discover some crooked dealings and when he reported them, was dismissed from the army by a superior who was also involved in the coverup. He returned home, ashamed to tell Kacee and when struggling to find work, is reluctantly persuaded by Kacee's brother to drive a truck which happens to carry stolen goods. He is caught and later ends up in Fox River, but to Kacee's knowledge, he is called back by the army for a further stint in the Iraq war.
