Pitfall was a game show airing in syndication.
Two contestants play for up to five points in predicting how they studio audience answered multiple choice questions. The first to five points wins the game and earns three "Pit passes."
That player plays a bonus game for a prize package by traversing a bridge of eight elevator platforms. The player has to answer questions in 100 seconds to advance to each platform, but three platforms contain "pitfalls"--the elevator lowers and incurs a ten-second penalty before the round resumes. The player can use his/her "pit passes" if he/she feels a pitfall is coming.
The show was notorious for stiffing not only contestants of their prizes but also for stiffing Alex Trebek of his pay as the production company went belly-up.
