Victor has an estranged brother Alfred who lives in New Zealand that he is shown writing to in the series. Alfred comes to visit the Meldrew house after concerns his brother Victor was suicidal and miserable from the moment he arrived. Victor has a love of the outdoors, taking trips with his wife and best friend to the countryside, fishing, and a trip in a death trap haunted caravan. Victor loves chocolate, crisps, whilst his favorite being smarties even when they contain bugs in the box.
