Plot Overview

A well-to-do man from Nebraska pays a visit to Wolfe asking for help in finding his estranged son, whom he believes is in New York City, in hopes of reconciling with him. Wolfe notices that the man's son resembles a man whose picture is on the paper, a man who is the defendant in a sensational murder case. Eventually, Wolfe becomes involved in helping to clear the young man of murder, a case that sees other people being killed, including a man Wolfe hired as a legman.
