Plot Overview
MacGyver and Thornton investigate when a wooden Madonna statue disappears from a Catholic church where Pat Lafferty, an old friend of MacGyver's, serves as its priest. MacGyver and Thornton head to a furniture repair shop whose owner, Vincent Battaglia, had carved the statue and tell him about the Madonna's disappearance, but Battaglia angrily refuses to help as he had cut ties with the church years earlier over a disagreement. Two teenage punks harass a mysterious bag lady named Carol but are run off by MacGyver and Thornton, and Carol is then brought by MacGyver to shelter at the Challenges Boys and Girls Club, which is under threat of closure and demolition unless it can meet a $9,000 payment demanded by the building's landlord. A Christmas talent show planned by the club to raise the needed funds for its expenses hits shaky ground thanks to Breeze, a teenage street boy with attitude issues, who later meets Carol and is steered back on the right path by her. MacGyver has his own issues with the holidays due to memories of his mother, who had suffered a stroke while he was away on an assignment and later died in the hospital before he could get back to see her, and Father Pat helps him come to terms with what happened. The talent show is a success as it raises the $9,000 needed to keep the Challenges Club open, and the Madonna statue is returned to the church on Christmas morning thanks to a boy who confesses to having taken the statue.
