DHARMA Initiative Ranch Composite is a condiment for salad and other edibles manufactured by The DHARMA Initiative. It (or more precisely, they) is played by a prop jar of an unknown white substance.

Basic Information

DHARMA Initiative Ranch Composite was first found in the Swan Bunker. There have been at least two jars of Ranch Composite to date.

It is fair to assume it bears at least a passing resemblance to the popular salad dressing, which is composed of cream, mayonnaise, and minced onions. However, the label of the Dharma Initiative variety states that it will keep at room temperature for up to seven years, a far longer shelf life than commercially available ranch dressing. This has given rise to the belief that the composite has been irradiated, or is somehow immune to the effects of the many bacteria accompanying a tropical climate. There has even been talk of it being used as a crude antibiotic.

Though not confirmed, it is likely more Ranch Composite was brought to the island with the arrival of the supply balloon in Lockdown.

Untimely Fates of Ranch Composite Jars

Though their shelf life is considerably higher than most condiments, tragedy does seem to strike DHARMA Initiative Ranch Composite more often than would be expected for a jar composed of solidly-constructed plastic. These injuries come most frequently from insensitive and uncaring humans.

A jar of Ranch Composite suffers a fatal gunshot wound at the hands of Michael (aided and abetted by Locke).

The battered remains of a second jar, not long after its evisceration (alongside numerous other food products and vessels) during the Hurley and Libby's Great Food Purge of 2x18.
