Laverne and Shirley in the Army was an animated comedy series airing on ABC which was based on the hit sitcom Laverne and Shirley (which the cartoon was billed as on-screen).
Laverne DeFazio and her friend and roommate Shirley Feeney seek adventure and boys by joining the Army. But Army life isn't as glamorous as they think as they take orders from an uptight pig, Sgt. Squealy. Atypical mistakes occur as Sgt. Squealy threatens to squeal (as it were) to his superior Sgt. Turnbuckle. Laverne, Shirley and Squealy end up involved in clandestine escapades with megalomaniacs, and the three eventually bumble their way into saving the world.
The show was delayed a month, and its time period up to its debut was filled by ABC with Scooby-Doo Classics. A year later, the Laverne and Shirley cartoon became part of the hour-long Mork and Mindy/Laverne and Shirley/Fonz show with eight new episodes.
Hanna-Barbera Productions produced the series in association with Paramount Television. Due to CBS Television Studios' (successor-in-interest to PTV) ownership of Laverne and Shirley, CBS Television Distribution is the show's distributor.
