Late Night with David Letterman is a comedy talk show that aired on NBC in late night.

In 1992, when Johnny Carson decided to retire from comedy, David Letterman vied for the vacated hosting position for The Tonight Show (reportedly with the blessing of Carson himself) but lost out to Jay Leno. Because of this, Letterman left NBC and started Late Show with David Letterman. The Late Night brand continued with new host Conan O'Brien as Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
