Lilimae Wiley Clements is a fictional character in the series Knots Landing. Famed actress Julie Harris portrayed Lilimae in a guest spot in 1980 before coming on as a regular character in the 1981-1982 season. She remained on the show until 1987.

Early Life

Lilimae Wiley was born in Mule Shoe, Texas. His only ambition was to become a singer and very young, she went to travel the country with musicians. At 14, while she was at Huskey Corners in Tennessee, she met Jeremiah Clements and married him. Shortly after the birth of their daughter, Valene, Lilimae abandoned her to pursue her singing career. Then, when Jeremiah died Lilimae moved Valene in with her sister, June. Then she met the Rev. Jonathan Rush. He wanted to marry her but she refused to be tied down. After the birth of their son, Joshua, they lived together for a year then Lilimae received a proposal and she fled again. Lilimae continued to pursue her career and one day Valene knocked at her door to ask for help. She was pursued by J.R. Ewing's men, who wanted to take her baby, Lucy, but she refused to let her in, saying that if the producer discovered that she was a grandmother, her career would be ruined. Val then ran, but J.R. Ewing managed to snatch her child.

Coming to Knots Landing

In 1980, Lilimae, who had learned about Val and Gary's remarriage, decided to visit them. After Val confronts Lilimae, they managed to work things out and then she went to see her sister June.

Return to Knots Landing

In the fall of 1981, Val and Gary see a newscast about Lilimae helping to stop a thief. The news says Lilimae is homeless, so Val invites her to their house. The next day, Lilimae is arrested for shoplifting, but the judge says he'll only give her six months probation if Val and Gary assume responsibility for her. Val invites her to stay with them. Lilimae manages to get Val's story about the Ewing family published with the help of Karen's brother Joe Cooper. This drives Gary into the arms of Abby Cunningham at the end of the season.

Chip Roberts

In 1982, Lilimae befriended Chip Roberts, who handled the advertising campaign for Val's book "Capricorn Crude" when she learned that he had killed his lover, singer Ciji Dunne. The following season, Chip was released and Lilimae takes the law into her own hands when she hits him with her car. Because of this, she is interned to a psychiatric hospital. On leaving the hospital, Val, who had divorced Gary, had a new boyfriend named Ben Gibson whom Lilimae hated but learned to love.

Another Family Reunion

One day, a man named Joshua Rush came knocking at the door. His father, Jonathan, had told him Lilimae was his aunt, but in reality turned out to be his long lost mother. After Joshua does some soul searching, Val convinces him to give Lilimae a chance. Joshua decides to stay in Knots Landing and becomes a successful televangelist on the show "A Better Tomorrow". Joshua also fell in love and married singer Cathy Geary in 1985. But later on, Joshua was suffering from severe psychological disorders that Lilimae criticized Ben, but she began to feel really concerned when she discovered that Joshua was beating his wife Cathy. One day she actually felt that Cathy was in danger and she discovered that her son was trying to throw his wife off the roof of a building. She managed to save but Joshua fell to his death. Feeling guilty, she began to idolize Joshua and took all of her anger out on Ben. But finally after a while, she began to accept Ben.

Lilimae's relationship with Al Baker

Through Mack, Lilimae made the acquaintance of Al Baker, who immediately fell in love with her. She pushed him away early and then they started dating. Al proposed to her but she refused saying she did not want to leave. Val later advised her mother to listen to her heart and finally Lilimae agreed not to marry but to live with him. They bought a camper and decided to leave Knots Landing to travel the country.
