Plot Overview
Amy begins her first day as a criminal court judge and makes a bold decision to overturn a decision made by the previous judge; she also fires the previous judge's clerk and hires Donna to take his place; Peter finds himself overwhelmed as Gillian remains comatose after the birth of their son, Walt; Lauren has a rough first day of junior high, but her second day gets better when she tells Amy that she met a boy at school who is a year older than her; meanwhile, Maxine is intrigued by a new social worker, Ellen, who is able to use her past experience as a foster child to help Maxine find a runaway teenage girl. Towards the end of the episode, Gillian emerges from her coma.
