From The TV IV
Iron Chef America (2004—) is a cooking competition that is broadcast on Food Network. The series is an American remake of the Japanese series Iron Chef, which Food Network also broadcast during its early years. The series also follows Iron Chef USA, a failed remake by UPN. It series began as Iron Chef America: Battle of the Masters, a special miniseries which pitted famous chefs against original Iron Chefs.
Like Iron Chef, each episode is a competition between one challenger and one "Iron Chef," a highly esteemed chef employed by "The Chairman," a man purported to be the nephew of Chairman Takeshi Kaga from the original series. Each competitor creates a several course meal based around a secret ingredient unveiled at the beginning of the battle. While they cook, host Alton Brown and floor reporter Kevin Brauch give running commentary with some insights given by a panel of guest judges.
