In medias res is a storytelling technique often employed on television shows where the narrative starts from the middle of the story instead of at the beginning. From there, the story develops through flashbacks, filling in missing pieces of the narrative.

Popular shows that employ in medias res include Alias, Battlestar Galactica, and Lost.
