Plot Overview

After an attempt on his life, a millionaire invites Hunter and McCall to dinner, where they meet the people he suspects of trying to kill him--his three nephews and one niece. They also meet his dear friend, an eccentric scriptwriter who considers herself an expert on solving mysteries, and after the millionaire is killed for real, she continues to hang around the two detectives, offering unsolicited advice on the case.

"Did that lady seem familiar to you?", Hunter asks McCall...and of course, she should seem familiar to viewers of '80's crime shows. "Jennifer Brasher" is a clear parody of Jessica Fletcher, the heroine of the then-extremely popular Murder, She Wrote. Actress Marge Redmond (familiar to TV viewers for her role on The Flying Nun and also years of Cool Whip commercials as Mrs. Tucker) does a remarkable job of copying Angela Lansbury, nailing every nuance of that popular TV character.

John Thomas James was the writing pseudonym for the series' Executive Producer, Roy Huggins. The name is comprised of the names of Huggins' three sons.
