Plot Overview

A garden is found filled with people buried alive to grow mushrooms. As Will tries to help in the case, he is also trying to cope with killing Hobbs, leaving his daughter Abigail an orphan and possible suspect. Making matters even worse is tabloid blogger Freddie Lounds whose pursuit of a story could jeopardise catching the killer.

The Show

• The dialogue Hannibal has regarding God and killing is adapted from Red Dragon in which Hannibal sends Graham a letter taunting him about killing Hobbs.

• Chelan Simmons's character is named Gretchen Speck. This is the same name of the character she guest starred as on Bryan Fuller's earlier series Wonderfalls.

Memorable Moments

• Pascal's confrontation with Lounds comes to an abrupt end when Stammets comes out of nowhere and shoots in the head.

Quotes

• Jack: (pulling one of Freddie's hairs) You were in Minnesota. You were in the Shrike's nest. You know how I know? 'Cause you left one of these hairs behind. You contaminated the crime scene. Just like everywhere you go, you contaminate crime scenes. That's obstructing justice. I can indict you for obstructing justice.

(beat)

Freddie: I'd appreciate it if you didn't.

• Hannibal: It wasn't the act of killing Hobbs that got you down, was it? Did you really feel so bad because killing him felt so good?

Will: (hushed) I liked killing Hobbs.

Hannibal: Killing must feel good to God, too. He does it all the time. And are we not created in His image?

Will: That depends who you ask.

Hannibal: God's terrific. He dropped a church roof on 34 of His worshippers last Wednesday night in Texas, while they sang a hymn.

Will: Did God feel good about that?

Hannibal: He felt powerful.
