Sanctuary is the twenty-eighth episode of the second season of Gargoyles, and the forty-first episode overall.

Goliath, Elisa and Angela arrive in Paris to find Demona and Macbeth seem to be cooperating.

Plot Overview

Goliath, Elisa, Angela and Bronx float in to Paris during the day, with Goliath, Angela and Bronx as stone. Elisa takes the opportunity to explore Paris on her own, but as she is wandering the streets she sees Demona in human form walking with Macbeth.

Concerned, she follows them. When she returns to the skiff after dark and informs Goliath and Angela, Goliath decides to find out what Demona is up to. He is concerned that Angela is placing too much importance on the fact that Goliath is her biological father, so he attempts to keep her away from Demona (who is undoubtedly Angela's biological mother) by placing Elisa under Angela's protection.

When Goliath confronts Demona, at first she greets him with enthusiasm, but then relalizes who he is an attacks him. During the confrontation, Thailog appears.

Angela sees Goliath under attack and rushes to help him.

Goliath believes that Demona is using Thailog and tries to convince Thailog but he ignores Goliath's counsel. During the discussion it is revealed that Demona was once Goliath's lover and Angela overhears.

With dawn approaching, Goliath retreats carrying Bronx. When Goliath, Elisa and Angela reunit, Angela has just enough time to angrily ask Goliath why he never told her that Demona had been his lover before dawn turned them to stone.

During the day, Elisa realizes that Macbeth has lost all memory of his time on Avalon, so he doesn't know that the human woman he is associating with is actually Demona.

Macbeth and 'Dominique Destine' marry in a private ceremony in his home. As he begins to reveal his secrets to her, the sun sets and Demona transforms before his eyes.

Thailog arrives and Demona takes him downstairs to see Macbeth imprisoned in his own dungeon. Demona explains to Macbeth that as his new bride, she will report his disappearance and inherit his wealth, in the mean time keeping him imprisoned forever, since she can not kill him without dying herself.

Thailog approaches the cage and covertly hands a laser pistol to Macbeth who quickly uses it to fire on Thailog and Demona before blasting a hole in the cell wall and escaping. Thailog and Demona quickly go after him. When they split up to search for Macbeth, Thailog starts to leave.

Goliath, Angela, Bronx and Elisa arrive as Thailog is leaving. He explains that if Macbeth and Demona kill each other, as Demona's legal business partner, he will inherit everything.

As Thailog, Goliath, Angela and Bronx fight on the roof, Elisa slips through the skylight into the house and incapacitates Demona and Macbeth.

When Macbeth revives, he laments his long, loveless existance. Goliath consoles him by arguing that by falling in love with 'Dominque', Macbeth has shown he can love and that love will bring meaning back to his life.

When Demona revives, Thailog arrives in the window and takes her away, still unaware that he betrayed her.

• Angela discovers that Goliath and Demona were once lovers, and that Demona is actually her biological mother.

Elisa says: I don't believe this. Of all the places Avalon could have sent us, who would have figured Paris. The most romantic city in the world and Goliath isn't even awake to share it with me.

Further indication of her romantic feelings for Goliath.
